Be a Nice Line Dancer
The New Mexico Line Dance community is a wonderful group of people who help make dance a joyful experience. Sometimes though, in the passion of doing what we love, we may lose sight of ourselves and how we deal with others.
Make the dance floor a more enjoyable experience for all by following a few simple rules.
Be Kind and Considerate:
-
If you come late to the dance, do not walk through the dancers while they are moving. Instead, wait until that dance is finished or fall in at the end of a line if space permits.
-
When standing in a perfect row an arm's length away on each side, don't squeeze in to be next to a friend or near the instructor.
-
If you are a beginner, don't get in the middle of the experienced dancers to watch their feet. It is very distracting to them and you may even cause a collision.
-
Hold back your personal styling when necessary. This uncomfortable to all if the dance floor is crowded.
-
If you bump into someone, apologize whether it's your fault or not.
Be Safe:
-
Don't bring food or drink onto the dance floor.
-
Don't dance in shoes without a back strap. Backless shoes can cause falls.
-
If you are sick, stay home.
Be Ready to Share:
-
Keep in mind that you do not own the spot you like to dance in. If you're not standing in it, then someone else can take it.
Be Patient:
-
Remember beginner dancers are learning. Welcome them and assist them if you can. We all were once beginning dancers.
-
Wait until a dance is completed before entering the dance floor.
-
When someone is dancing, don't interrupt them. They are probably concentrating.
Be a Supportive Student:
-
Don't teach while the instructor is teaching the dance.
-
Don't go ahead of the instructor showing that you already know the next steps of the dance. It is distracting to others trying to learn.
-
When the instructor is teaching, don't throw in fancy turns and variations. Support those learning and keep it simple.
-
Don't carry on loud conversations on the floor or sidelines while the instructor is teaching.
Be Ready to Have Fun:
-
Keep your head up, keep smiling, and enjoy!
